we sing. we dance. we steal things.

I definitely stole some time from Jason Mraz when I photographed him with mixer Tony Maserati back in August 2009 for the double cover of Mix Magazine (October issue).

This was so much fun for me because I’ve been a fan of Jason’s since 2000. I have a photograph of him from 2002 (which I will look for later) when his first album was released…I remember chatting with him and Toca Rivera in NY when they were still able to hang out and have a beer after the shows. So nearly a decade later…

I thought I would only be given 30 minutes but Jason gave me plenty of time despite his tired bones and being under the weather amidst his grueling tour schedule, and I felt terrible not giving him a minute to breath…but I’m selfishly glad because I ended up getting this great candid shot of him on the fire escape of Germano Studios in NYC.

Also happy Jason liked it enough to post it on his facebook.

Thanks for being such a trooper, Jason!

And thanks to one of the raddest people I know, Tony Maserati, simply for supporting my work all the time.

Lastly, thanks to Troy Germano for lending us his studio, and hanging up my photo next to his beautiful collection of Bob Gruen’s. It’s an honor.
