My Daniel Johnston project.
.
This project with Daniel wasn’t really a project at all when I first photographed him back in 2008. I was a fan of his art & music and knew I wanted to work with him. I am so grateful to Daniel’s brother Dick for giving me that opportunity and for welcoming me back time and time again. I had no idea until about a year ago that there might be something here. I have thousands of...

Arthur.
2007 Photograph by Nicolas Guerin.
.
I was saddened when Irving Penn passed away last October, but I am even more saddened to hear about the passing of his brother Arthur last night - day after his 88th birthday. A legendary film, tv, and stage director who I had the honor of meeting for the first time in 2008 at my friend Priscilla’s Oscar night dinner party. Priscilla was...

At home with Daniel.
I spent 3 days in Waller, Texas visiting and photographing my friend Daniel Johnston.
He lives in what I can only describe as a treasure chest. There isn’t an empty wall in sight…they are covered with posters and photos, from Marilyn to The Beatles. Every shelf and corner filled with superhero/comic figurines, comic books, music, and VHS tapes. Spunky the cat roams the hallways.

Daniel.
Photographed by Niles J. Fuller
This is one of my favorite photographs of Daniel Johnston. So this is the perfect photo to break my blog on. This face makes me happy and in front of it is where I’ll be.
New York to Rhode Island to Texas…I will be on the road and up in the air.
I probably will not blog until I return so if you want to come along on my journey, you can do so here:...

how to be extraordinary.
This past Friday night I had dinner with my friend and mentor, Priscilla Morgan.
She called it a “girls’ night dinner” and I was thrilled and honored to be sitting at this table among some extraordinary women.
To my left, Marie Cosindas. To her left, Ariane Batterberry.
I photograph with polaroids all the time and to be able to chat with Marie who was one of the...

I love rock 'n' roll.
If I didn’t, I don’t think I would be the person I am today.
And I would have never met the man who originally wrote and sang this famous tune (made even more famous by Joan Jett, and again by Britney Spears). Or maybe I would have…as long as I loved French. As it sounds, it’s a random story… The man is Alan Merrill and he had spent some years in Paris. I had written...

we sing. we dance. we steal things.
I definitely stole some time from Jason Mraz when I photographed him with mixer Tony Maserati back in August 2009 for the double cover of Mix Magazine (October issue).
This was so much fun for me because I’ve been a fan of Jason’s since 2000. I have a photograph of him from 2002 (which I will look for later) when his first album was released…I remember chatting with him and...

paris, je t'aime
I’ve already begun to pack in my head. The essentials. I travel light. Very light.
Because at the end of the day, I’m going to Paris to feel nothing but the weight of Paris, which happens to be light. Someone seems to have bottled happiness in that city. And the term “madly in love” IS Paris.
Nauseous yet?
I’m not. I’m especially excited to be shooting...

Welcome to the Duel World
I’ve been hit with insomnia again. I was doing fine but out of nowhere…well…here I am watching some quality TV. Infomercials. I don’t know why I love them so but there’s something eerily soothing about them. Comparable to a cup of warm milk.
But wait, I should probably start my first blog post with a little introduction so you know what you’re getting yourself...
